Waterville Valley, NH – Special Olympics New Hampshire (SONH) State Winter Games return to Waterville Valley Monday-Wednesday, March 3-5. Opening Ceremonies are Monday night in the Waterville Valley Town Square. The ceremony will include the lighting of the Flame of Hope, the parade of SONH athletes from all parts of the state, and a law enforcement cruiser parade. The three-day event will include competition in alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing events.

Waterville Valley will welcome hundreds of athletes along with dozens of coaches and dozens more volunteers from local programs around the state. “Our volunteers never cease to amaze us. They work hard at making the opening ceremonies, competitions and all the extraordinary events associated with the Winter Games an absolutely exceptional experience for our athletes,” said SONH President and CEO Mary Conroy.

They never cease to amaze me with their enthusiastic dedication and competitive spirit, which is truly inspiring.”

Doug Foley will function as Master of Ceremonies for Monday night’s Opening Ceremony in the Town Square. Eversource is scheduled to have 184 employees volunteering in Waterville Valley during the Winter Games.

Other mission partners for the event include McDonald’s-The Napoli Group, Associated Grocers of New England, Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast and Sunbelt Rentals.

Opening ceremonies take place Monday evening with competition taking place Tuesday and Wednesday. All events are free and open to the public.
