Winni Dip Fundraiser at Lake Winnipesaukee
Laconia, NH – Special Olympics New Hampshire (SONH) is back at the Big Lake this Friday and Saturday for the annual Winni Dip fundraisers. The events will once again be held at the Margate Resort in Laconia. This year’s theme is “Alice in Wonderland”.
The Friday Dip is reserved for middle school and high school students either as individual dippers or part of a school team participating in the High School Dip or the Middle School Dip. The first wave of Dippers will hit the water at the Margate’s private beach at 11am. Friday at noon will also see the first wave of the MEGA Dip. A hearty group of mostly law enforcement personnel who will be dipping once per hour for 24 hours. Saturday will include the Law Enforcement Dip open to police officers and other public safety personnel, the Community Winni Dip which is open to everyone ages 15 and older and the finale of the 24-hour MEGA Dip. Dipping on Saturday will also begin at 11am and spectators are welcome to this free event.
Most fundraising is done online at the SONH website and via each dipper’s existing social media. This allows most people to reach their fundraising minimums in as quick as just two or three days. Registration is open now at www.SONH.org. Participants choose which event they want to take part in and whether they will be doing so in-person at the Margate or utilizing the “D-I-Y” option. Those opting for the latter will receive their very own “Party Pail” delivered to their home ahead of the Winni Dip weekend.
The 2024 Winni Dip is presented by Coca-Cola Beverages Northeast.
“Coke Northeast is deeply inspired by the Special Olympics athletes right here in our home state of New Hampshire. The 2025 Winni Dip is a crucial fundraiser that helps these incredible individuals continue to challenge themselves through competition, grow through teamwork, and build lasting friendships,” said Mike Elmer, Vice President of People and Culture at Coca Cola Beverages Northeast. He added “We are honored to be a proud sponsor of the 2025 Winni Dip. Thank you to all the ‘Dippers’ and their wonderful supporters for making this event possible.”
SONH President and CEO Mary Conroy says “Even though the Winni Dip is a companion event to our Penguin Plunge, it has its own distinct feeling and identity. It also has the added component of an event that is law enforcement-specific,” referring to Saturday’s Law Enforcement Dip.
Funds raised from the Winni Dip events will go towards athlete training and upcoming competitions like the State Basketball Tournament in April, several regional competitions in May, the State Summer Games at UNH in June and more. All funds raised from the Winni Dip stay in the Granite State.
Those joining in-person events at the Margate will enjoy a pre-dip party and costume contest as well as a post-dip awards ceremony. Dippers doing the D-I-Y Dip are asked to always keep safety in mind. Pictures or video should be posted to social media using #sonhdip.
