Golf

The Manchester Special Olympic golf program is open to all athletes in Manchester SO. The other condition is that athletes have a unified partner who can practice with them and attend the State Golf Tournament if the golf athlete wishes to compete in that State event. The Unified Partner condition is due to the fact that we play alternate shot (athlete hits one shot and Unified Partner hits next shot, etc.) An athlete does not have to have experience with golf to join our team. All skill levels are welcome.

Our practices are at Intervale Country Club in Manchester on Sunday afternoons at 2:30PM and we play 9 holes of golf. It is not mandatory to attend all practices but it is expected that athletes post at least six scores during our prox. 14 week season. This is also a requirement for participation in the State SONH Golf Tournament. Intervale charges a $20 fee if you take a cart, but there is no charge for the golf.

The Manchester Special Olympics golf program is directed by David Donahue, who is in his 13th (lucky!) year of doing the program. Donahue is a former six year Manchester Local Program Coordinator and former member of the Special Olympic State Board of Directors. He is an SO certified coach in Track & Field and Ski & Snowboard. He is a lifelong golfer and brings a great enthusiasm for the game which he enjoys passing on to Special Olympic golf athletes.

For information on the sport and season, visit the SONH Golf information page. Here, you can find rules, a list of offered events, coaching guides, and much more!

The Manchester Special Olympics golf team could not happen without the support and generosity of Intervale Country Club. Thank you!
